Let's call the calling off off!

Hey wha happen. So the title of this is from Mark and Amanda's wedding song - seriously the best wedding song ever I thought. I've been wanting to blog/post their pics since I got back to Cayman but as you can see I was trying to blog my events in chronological order...and then that got interrupted by my caving blog because I FINALLY got the pics. So now that I have all this spare time on my hands...wait for it wait for it....
So really and truly now my reason for coming back home in May was to see Mark and Amanda get married. The long awaited day finally came and let me tell you it brang a tear to my eye. Well, maybe a few tears to both eyes. My big bro and my new found sister. Amanda looked absolutely gorgeous with the sweetest georgia brown! hair you ever seen and my brethren looked dashing - he cleaned his ghetto look up good. :) jk Markus. But seriouslyI don't think I ever seen a bride look so good and a couple for that matter.
So it starts off with the stagette, which I won't really get into for unmentioned reasons but hey by the end of the night we were havin fun dancin our own lil show like there's no tomorrow so you know I gotta post at least a couple pics that highlight the night. Actually, it goes crazy when I post a lot of pics so I will continue with the wedding pics on the next posting which I'll hopefully get to tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm heading to Seven Mile Beach for a girl's night out because we all need it! In awhile...

Pirate's Hidden Treasures

Almost forgot...finally got the caving pics. These are from almost 6 months ago but you get the idea. Any takers???

Joey wants his tomatoes back

So this is me and some buddies at Joey Tomatoes on Jasper Ave. About 10 of us got together when I got back and it was most excellent to see everyone. Some are my Homefire crew, Rabbit, Shine and PBC. I'm not defining them by where I met them...well, I guess I am but that's just how it goes. Anyway, we should do this again when I'm back but Trav, remember that we need to take a special trip to Franco's...cause its just been too long. At least Ron will remember you - 'hey, weren't you that guy that was here like a year ago when the drama queen was acting up'. Ha!!! And the cheers guy, I wonder if he's sitting there right now. And Jo and Megs I think that Whiskey Roadhouse is long overdue. I don't have enough words to fill the picture space and trust me that's a good thing. Sorry the pics are so screwy but I can't seem to find the solution. And this blog is only worth so much of my time and it ends now.

Happily Ever After

I thought it was about time to start bloggin events from when I came back to Canada for that lovely month. I'll start from the beginning. Well, Jenni and Rob Leriger de la plante's wedding rehearsal was going to be the day after I came back from Cayman but because of those wonderful people at Northwest Airlines, I got home a day late. So after heading into town when I got home, I went straight to PBC for the rehearsal...Heather and I had fun being the candlelighters though I must say I struggled with the safety switch. That weekend we went to the wedding, and I brought my friend Greg who made fun of the slight Caymanian slang but he picked it up after an afternoon so there you go! It was good times. The wedding was really nice and Jenni looked beautiful in her amazing dress and the bridesmaids all looked smokin as well. The reception was crazy fun with jokes, games and some groovin dancin goin on. I must say even my 'rents had the moves, what could be a little embarassing (ha!) but it wasn't cause they were too into it and havin a good time. It was hilarious. Very entertaining. And mom and dad, think of all those receptions dad has that you could be dancing at! That would be sure to impress his bigwig customers! Anyway, I was glad that I left work to see Jenessa get married...and I get to be Auntie Becca soon - right Jenni? Ha!

just another day in paradise...

Earthly paradise is overrated. People come to Cayman looking for paradise but they find hell. But hey, I can now say I've been to hell. Hell in paradise? That's a good one for English class. But yes, I've been to hell and back. Trust me, hell is overrated too - I found it quite boring. There wasn't even any fire. The torment was boredom I guess. For those of you who don't know, there is a little place called Hell up in West Bay in Cayman. Its basically a field of ironshore. There is a shop (which I didn't go in) where you can buy souvenirs that say 'I've been to Hell and back'. You can also get a postcard stamped by the hell post office. My favorite part was on the side of the shop it said something like 'Jesus died for us all so give him your heart and go to Heaven'. I didn't have my camera, but its not always easy to capture the supernatural on film anyway - but here are some pics from the net. Hell is real guys, and to sum it up like it says on one of the tourist websites: 'The road to Hell is not paved with good intentions, it is paved with ashphalt'.

Since I was in Westbay anyway, I checked out the turtle farm as well. Its illegal to catch turtle from the ocean but the turtle farm uses half their turtles for food and half to release back into the wild. An I only tried turtle once when I first got here. If I remember correctly, it tasted like beefy-chickeny-fish. I na sayin it was bad, I jus sayin it didn't leave a lasting impression either way - I'll have to try it again and I'll get back to you on that one. Here are some pics from the net:

I forgot to give comparison pics of the hair on the last blog, so to sign off tonight, more pics of me that you didn't really want to see!

Its a New Day

Change is good. Mom, this post is for you cause you asked me to blog pics of my new hair color. I know you liked the blonde, but trust me the sun out here changes it to white an I jus can't handle that! Its amazing how much people react, like seriously its just a color. So far everyone's reaction has been shock. Someone even said my face hasn't adjusted to it yet...I'm sure they meant they hadn't got used to seeing it yet - since when does your face change to match your hair color! Anyway, I don't regret it so its all good. Once I'm out of the constant sun I'll probably go blonde again but its staying like this for a good while.
I went for dinner to Portofino's tonight with the girls from OF. I wouldn't normally go for dinner there but hey, it was fun to have a girls night out for a change. My roomate is coming back this week. I've been so lucky to have the house to myself for a whole month but it'll be nice to have more company again. We also have a couple moving into the room next to mine at the end of the month - great. What can ya do...
Looking at the ceiling in my room I realize my gecko friend hasn't been around for a few weeks. I hope that doesn't mean an even bigger spider ate him. But there is a tailess gecko that hangs out on our porch and he's pretty cool - maybe he'll move in soon. They make the best roomates.
Did I mention I got Maiden Plum poisoning from our caving adventure? It came a few days late but its over my left arm and lets just say I'd rather not have it. Its unsightly and itches like mad. Next time you see a jungle of Maiden Plum, avoid it at all costs. And that's my tip of the day.

Dark Caves , Swamps and LOST in the Jungle

Ok, so yesterday comprised of caving and getting lost in the bush. It started off normal enough. I start work a bit later on Sundays and head in for the resort's orientation which is where I start my bookings for the week. It was your typical Sunday morning; got up, started my Sunday hitch-hiking to work, realized AGAIN how dumb it is to hitch on a Sunday cause there is no traffic going NE. Just when I thought I would miss orientation, Fast Eddie stops but is going the other way. Thankfully, I convince him to change directions. After orientation, Steve, Joey (my bosses) and myself had plans to go and get this caving tour sorted - or at least started. The moral of today's story will be to stick to your plans. So, we go park by the north side's Nicho Norte bar, put on our long pants and shoes (too hot for that let me tell ya), grab our machetes (yes, that's right) and head into the bush. The first hour or so we spent clearing the path towards the caves. Then we fixed the ropes at where you propel down into the caving system. I tested climbing down with the rope and trust me its much more secure than the old one. Nice to cool off down there in the cave opening too. This particular caving system leads out into a different opening a ways further into the bush. Because we didn't bring our gear, we bushwhacked to find the opening so we could fix the ropes there as well. We went a little too far. BUT, we found more caves. Different ones - they had a HUGE entrance room and you didn't need to propel down. It wasn't part of the plan, but Joey sent me in first to investigate. Then Steve followed. Joey stayed behind. We were just gonna check out the first room. But then we got excited cause we think this is the cave that has the lake we'd heard about. We start going further in. One flashlight, no string - but we were remembering our landmarks. Like, there were these 4 little stone 'people' in one of the rooms - it was cool but kinda creepy I guess. We called the other caves the Bat Caves, but these ones were definitely the ones with the bats. Half the time I felt like I was in the Batman movie but it also reminded me of Phantom of the Opera's underground home. We went in pretty far but didn't want to chance it further since we didn't have the proper gear on us. And it seemed like we'd come to a dead end but we did find a tiny hole of water - we're pretty sure there's gotta be more openings. We heard Joey's voice in the distance so we started making our way out. We hiked a bit more only to find another cave - this one didn't really have an underground system though. So all is good and we'd had enough for the day so we start for our way back. But then we'd heard voices in the second cave as we were passing by. We stop to chat and apparently this woman knows about another cave still. Was it ever a mistake to follow her. She couldn't seem to find this cave. In the meantime, we were on our last drops of water but we managed to find mangos on the ground and they were good eatin. Nothing like peeling a mango with your teeth and eating them how they're meant to be eatin. I ate like 5. Yummy yummy. Meanwhile, Joey's instincts kick in and he heads back - I woulda gone but I thought we were following in just a few minutes anyway. To make the next 4 hours of this story short, we got lost in the bush. Bigtime. Any form of trail was long gone and we were doing some serious thick bushwacking. It was painful still. No more water either. We were all drenched in sweat. Pants were brutally hot but at least it saved my legs from being lacerated. Caribbean bushes are viscously nastly with all their wires, prickles and thorns. We even got to the point were we had no choice but to go through a jungle of poisonous Maiden's Plum but that was the least of our worries. We still had a couple hours before dark and I was thinking, man if we were in any other island we'd be having a rough night or we'd be eatin alive or shot by some tribe. Ha! Luckily we were in Cayman! We got to a knee deep swamp. As we were wading through the swamp I was really thinkin you know, they named Cayman after a type of crocodile for a reason...could they all really be extinct? Just a few days before my friend was telling me how there still had to be some here and his mom had seen one. Great. I had had enough...it was fun at first but I was tired after the caving expedition alone! Luckily there was reception so I get Joey on the phone. He said he'd pack some gatorades and bring the GPS. At this point, the others were trying to determine where we could be based on our surroundings. It didn't make sense to me but there was a plane flying and they deciphered which engines it had which meant that it was a plane going to Cayman Brac and based on the direction it was flying that meant we were......oh my! I was just happy that Joey would come and find us. After wading through yet another swamp, this time waist deep, we end up in someone's elaborate back yard. An expensive home, filled with peacocks wandering everywhere. It was maze enough to find the way out of their garden! Gatorades were waiting in their driveway and that was a sweet moment! Somehow I managed to get away with only four scrapes on my forearm but my boss was a different story. When I get a caving pic I'll post it on this blog. Goin into town dancin and still gotta have another shower so latah!
